My condolences to Japan's earthquake. It's been disastrous and having a few really good friends studying in Japan, I was quite worried at first. Especially when they had no connection whatsoever at first. But then I figured out it's no point worrying because worrying ain't gonna help. And I ain't no believer of any religion, though at some point I wished I were because then I could pray for their safety. I'm glad they're all safe from the disaster though some 1800 people have died and thousands are still missing.
But what inspired me to write this post, was not really because of the earthquake/tsunami. It was some shared post on Facebook by a born-again Christian. If you don't know what that means, it simply means people who weren't born as Christian but take up the religion at some point in their life. Before I start writing anything, I think I should clarify that this is my personal opinion(turned into more of a personal rant at the end) and I don't mean to offend anyone. My opinion was more of questioning what he said and is definitely NOT directed to all born again Christians. So, take no offense. If you think you might be offended, then don't read ahead.
This fella uses the example of tsunami/earthquake in Japan to relate to doomsday and bs like that. He first compared God to a "medicine" which can ultimately save your life. He said that according to Christian teachings, we don't have to guess when doomsday is because we won't know. He asked that why don't we non-believers try to get to know this path (believing in God) which is able to save your life. Next, he said God is almighty and he loves everyone. Even if you don't believe in Him, He still loves everyone. My question is, if God so love everyone and will save anyone, then it makes no sense to tell us that believing in God as a way to save your(my) life. I feel like he's contradicting himself, although I have to say he's much better than some other BAC that I knew in the past. One blatantly told me I would go to hell if I don't believe in God (guess what, she was a cute girl with one of the sweetest voice I've heard). Seriously, having a religion is not bad at all. It keeps you motivated and probably helps show the way in life when you're all lost in the dark. But, seriously, people, you don't have to shove your religion down people's throat. I know your intention is definitely good because you're trying to share your belief (thanks but no thanks) with people you care but if you haven't realized, I think what you were doing was more like threatening people with some evil curse. Like telling us you believers are going to be saved by God and if we don't follow suit, we're not going to be saved (from what?) or we're going to hell. If I don't tell you how my religion(sorry that I don't have one but assuming that I do) defines who deserves to go to Heaven with God and coincidentally you're one of those who are not going to be in Heaven, then STFU and don't tell me how your religion defines it because I don't care. This might be hurtful but I got so annoyed I just want to say stop telling me how much you care about my afterlife and how bad my afterlife is gonna be if I don't share the same belief as you do because honestly, I don't even think there exists an afterlife.
...Ok that went a bit overboard. I just got so fed up from reading all these people who self-proclaimed care so much about me and the rest of the world. Think about when the Churches lock poor Galileo up for not agreeing with the churches' perception. Was your God trying to save him too? Hell yeah tell me about it.
2 person(s) wasted his/her time:
